Description

4 original photographs taken during the visit of King Oscar of Sweden (1829-1907) and wife Queen Sophia of Nassau (1836-1918) to the villa Jeannette, Abbazia (now Opatija in Croatia) in 1904.
The hotel was previously also known as "Pension professor Stark".
Gustav Mahler stayed in this villa in the spring of 1901.

All photographs mounted on cardboard, behind passpartout and with printed captions.

All titled above the photograph:
"Aufnahme anlässlich des aufenthaltes Ihrer Majestäten des Konigs Oscar und der Königin Sofie von Schweden in der hotel-pension Jeannette, Abbazia 14, Februar bis 10, Mai 1904."

The first photograph is titled below the photo "Ihre Majestäten König Oscar und Königin Sofie von Schweden mit Suite". All are identified (see photo 6 and 7)

Each photo is sized approx. 9.9 x 7.5 inches / 252 x 192 mm (measured within passpartout). Size of mount is approx. 14.8 x 12.3 inches / 375 x 318 mm.

CONDITIONS are mostly good / very good - The groupportrait of the suite with a small imperfection of emulsion. The hauswache group & dinner room photo with some spotting. The mounts are fair with soiling, scuffing, spotting and wear.

ORIGINALS are grey/greenish toned. A bit darker then the scans show.
