solely for his published works on horses. Raised as a Jesuit, Solleysel began
riding horses at a young age and developed a love for horses and Hippology. In
1664, following his retirement of teaching horse exercises, he published ‘The Perfect Horse’, often thought to be the best 17th-century book on
care for horses.
Published under the French title ‘Le
Parfait Mareschal’, this book covers the symptoms of common horse diseases,
prevention tactics, known medicines, and how to breed horses. Other important
topics include how to travel with horses, appropriate diet, improve teeth
health, and necessary riding equipment. This book features illustrations of
