Nanbu Tekki Tetsubin Iron Kettle Traditional Japanese Teapot 0.5L Black Japan

Thank you for looking at my item.

The weight is approximate due to the handmade nature of the product.
Manufacturing Procedure
First, decide on the design. (Taking an iron kettle as an example, but other products are almost the same.) The shape of the tetsubin, as well as everything from the surface pattern to everything else, is drawn in full size. Half of this cross-section is taken on a moldboard called a "wooden form. In the case of an iron kettle, three of these are necessary. These are rotated to make the mold. In most cases, a "Nakago," which is one size smaller than the wooden mold, is also made. This is to open a cavity in the iron kettle.

The wooden mold is used to make a mold. The wooden mold is placed in an outer frame called a sanegata and filled with river sand or clay, and then rotated to form the shape. This is called "katahiki. Before it dries, the pattern is stamped on it.

The mold is then dried, fired, and pig iron is poured into it. The iron kettle is removed from the mold and baked in a charcoal fire at 800 to 1,000 degrees Celsius to add a magnetic oxide film to prevent rust. This is called "kinki-stopper," and this technique originated in Nambu ironware.

The above is an overview; the actual process is much more involved and may take up to two months to complete.
