This relatively uncommon cover from British Rhodesia was sent to Johannesburg, Transvaal, six years after the Second Boer War came to a conclusion. It appears to have been sent by a British soldier, as the usual rate for a letter would have been more than 1 penny.

To continue, as for the red, 1-p. British South Africa Company definitive, it's in very good condition! For the most part, the S.O.N. CDS cancels from the Umtali P.O. are superb! There are two cancels on the back from different post offices in Johannesburg. The machine cancel is quite fine, but the CDS was smudged some upon its application and is light/faded in some places.

Lastly, as for the envelope, itself, it's in pretty good condition considering its age. There are some stains on either side, and two hinge remnants, too. And, there are two, vertical creases down its middle. The back flap is 85% intact. Noted imperfections aside, this remains a nifty, uncommon cover from British Rhodesia by what was most likely a British serviceman!
