This very early Ward Lock & Co illustrated travel guide is one of the original editions of the "red" guides published between 1910 and 1918.  These were the first of those with the famous "coat of arms" design on the cover and with the 1/- net price at the top of the spine, leading to the guides becoming known as the "shilling" guides.  They are full of contemporary photographs, advertisements and fold-out maps.

This particular guide dates from 1910/11, 4th edition revised.  Details as follows :

Area covered :  Stratford-upon-Avon (the home of Shakespeare) and surrounding area, including Warwick, Kenilworth and Royal Leamington Spa.

Contents :  128 pages of text, plus 90 pages of fascinating old advertisements.  Fold out map and 5 sketch plans (all present) and over 40 illustrations.

Overall condition :  Very good / Excellent.

Maps :     Excellent.  All the maps and plans are complete, with no markings or damage.

Covers :   Very good.  Very little wear.  Slight fading to black design.  Tiny pen inscription on front cover. No other markings or damage.  

Spine :  Very good.  Normal wear.  No markings or damage.

Binding :   Very good.  Just slight cracks inside the covers.

Pages :  Excellent.  Very little wear.  Slight discolouration at edges. No markings or damage.

Other :    Small pencil inscriptions inside front cover and on title page.
