I offer this very unusual, rare and possibly one of a kind (custom production) antique American made kidney shape with butterfly and fans Aesthetic design elements and cherubs handles.  Made of quadruple silver plating, likely over copper. Stamped by the Simpson, Hall, Miller & Co. of Wallingford Connecticut.  Also marked quadruple plate which was their best quality.  Dating from c.1880 to 1885 when the aesthetic movement was popular, getting its inspiration from Japanese design.  The tray lays flat, without feet, which is the best way to avoid damaging furniture, since it is very heavy.

I have sold well over 1,000 silver and plated trays in the past and never encountered another like this.  It is truly one of the best you will ever see.  The kidney shape is unique, as are the cherubs support for the handles and the aesthetic design in the center and on the trim around the edge. Great designer or statement item.

Dimensions: appx. 26.75" long (68 cm) by 17" wide (43.2 cm) and 3.5" deep (8.9 cm) to the top of the cherubs’ heads. Very substantial weight of just over 5 Kg grams or about 11 Lbs.

Condition: Overall good to very good condition for a 140-year-old silver plated tray.  The plating is original with signs of normal wear.  There is a number engraved underneath the edge as was often recommended by authorities in the 70’s to identify property. The foot of one of the handles shows what looks like a very old repair (see photos).  None of this detracts from the quality and scarcity of this item. It displays very well.
