Personally Signed by Lt.Commander C.M. Kingsmill DSO  VRD  pilot Swordfish aircraft during the

 Lieutenant-Commander Edgar F  Lee  was the last surviving member of those gallant aircrew of 825 Squadron Fleet Air Arm that in February 1942 made the attack in Swordfish torpedo bombers on the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau accompanied by the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen.

 D Bunce was his  gunner.( Edgar Lee)  during the action  against the German ships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Shot down 

 

Lt Cdr R McC(Mac ) Samples Survivor Observer W5907 One cannon shell hits their aircraft immediately behind the pilot and explodes, wounding both Kingsmill and the observer ‘Mac’ Samples. Failing to line up the first time, the pilot turns for a second run through the intense flak. Whilst Samples is wounded again, their torpedo is released from about 2,000 yards

Group Captain T.P.Gleave CBE.Battle of Britain Pilot Squadron Leader Gleave commanded No 253 Squadron from 2 June 1940, at RAF Kirton  in  Lindsey. Shot down and grievously burned, August  31st 1940 whilst defending RAF Biggin Hill, Commanded RAF Manston October 5th 1941 to April 13th 1942.  at the time of the attack on the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. .Member of the Guinea Pig
