Offered Here is a Bronze/Brass hand crafted Vintage Kumkum box with 7 compartments used for Tikka ceremonial rituals. The seven compartments are held closed with a threaded center finial featuring the Elephant God Ganesha. Each of the seven compartments are hinged and can open independently. The box stands on 7 small feet as pictured. 

It measures approx. 3 inches in total diameter and stands 2 1/2" in height. It retains the original darkened patina and has never been cleaned or polished. The box weighs 7.2 ounces or 205 grams. 

Kumkum made from saffron or turmeric is used ceremonially by Hindu women to make various markings on the body and forehead as ornamentation and to show status.
