Nice Civil War period British snake buckle in non-excavated condition. This consists of the snake portion and keeper. As you can see, it is missing the female portion that the snake joins to.  These were heavily used by the southern states during the Civil War, as well as a handful of early-war Massachusetts units. Scarce.

The buckle remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Areas in relief are well worn and smooth. Mellow age patina. As mentioned, the female portion of the plate is missing. Please see the pictures for more detail.
