This antique Japanese carpenter's tool, known as a 'Sumitsubo,' is a rare find for collectors of woodworking equipment. Crafted in Japan, this tool was designed to hold ink for marking lines on wood. The unique design of the Sumitsubo appears to be based on a old japanese story about the "fight between the monkey and the crab". It is 10" long, making it a beautiful addition to any collection of antique tools.

This is a one of a kind very old antique that was traditionally carved and given to the master carpenter who was put in charge of a major building project. Also, tradition states that the ink box was placed somewhere within the built structure when it was completed. Measures 10"x 2"x 3.5". Weighs 8.5 oz.
