Glass and Sterling Silver Match Striker - Antique (1893)

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver and glass match striker in the tyg form; an addition to our ornamental collection

Description

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and glass match striker has a cylindrical, rounded form.

The surface of the glass body is embellished with a serrated texture which composes a match striker.

The body incorporates three moulded glass handles in the tyg* form; with the use of the three handles, this piece could easily be transferred around a group.

The upper portion of this antique glass match striker retains the original, plain hallmarked sterling silver mount.

By virtue of its size and weight, this versatile match striker could be utilised as a paperweight.

* A tyg is a large English mug/drinking vessel with three or more handles. The mug was made to be shared, and handed round between several drinkers.

Condition

This antique silver match striker mount is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition.

The glass body is in perfect condition.

Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount are very clear; the maker's mark has wear in keeping with age and location but remains legible.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this antique match striker.
