You are bidding on 15 SCHWEDLERS NORWAY MAPLE SEEDS - Acer platanoides 'Schwedleri' .

This older cultivar has maroon-purple spring foliage, fading to dark green in the summer. It is more vigorous and cold hardy than 'Crimson King'.

This has a height of 40 to 50 feet but can grow taller when shaded on the sides . Branches droop toward the ground as the tree grows older forming an oval crown branching to the ground if unpruned. The rounded, flat-topped crown fills with greenish-yellow flowers in the spring .

Foliage opens red, then becomes dark purple-green in the summer and finally turns orange-yellow in the autumn.

USDA hardiness zones: 3 through 7A

Edible parts of : The sap contains a certain amount of sugar and can either be used as a drink, or can be concentrated into a syrup by boiling off the water. The syrup is used as a sweetener on many foods. The concentration of sugar is considerably lower than in the sugar maples (A. saccharum). The tree trunk is tapped in the early spring, the sap flowing better on warm sunny days following a frost. The best sap production comes from cold-winter areas with continental climates.

Medicinal use of : None known

Other uses of : A rose colored dye is obtained from the bark. Wood - hard, heavy, fine grained. Used for small domestic items.
