This is a wonderful Netherlands earthenware, magnificent plate by the renowned Dutch pottery Gouda Holland c.1923, decorated in the typical semi-matte glaze and relatively abstract floral pattern with lovely hand painted colors. The magnificent and highly decorative plate is fully marked with pottery marks underneath, “1165/25 – Westland– Holland” among other painted and incised marks for model number. This plate was painted in 1923 by Maria Nieuwenhuisen (born 1897) who worked as a decorator from 1912 - 1927. Measures 26,5 cm diameter. An absolute most for collectors!
Inspired in the style of Henri Leonardus August Breetvelt (Delft, 1864 – Gouda, 1923) was one of the most important designers and artists at Zuid-Holland. He also worked at Porceleinfabriek De Kroon in Noordwijk. Henri died in 1923 but even after his death Zuid-Holland continued using his designs, giving them the name "Decor Breetvelt.
