A very decorative early 20th century hand made and hand carved mahogany Anglo-Indian box from the Kashmir region. Lovely domed form with detailed and extensive carving. The lid is not lockable but is of a tight fit, and it was most likely made for small cigars or cigarettes/tobacco, although the size would also be suitable for playing cards. Today of course you could use it for many purposes
The wood panels are hand sawn and you can still see some of the saw marks around the inside of the lid rim etc which is a nice touch. There are of course no makers marks, such pieces were very rarely marked. It would date to the 1920's.
Condition
Very good for period, minor knocks around the edges and body, but less then usual for age.
