1699 Antiquities of ROME Basil Kennett Classical WAR Gladiators MAP Architecture

Basil Kennett was a 17th-century English chaplain much better known for his academic scholarship. This work became the standard on the history of Rome during its time. While other books on the history of Rome were certainly available, this work was written in a way of encouraging the study of classical philosophy and history, more so than just reiterating historical facts. This 1699 edition contains Kennett’s two essays which, according to the title page, concern “the Roman learning and the Roman Education”.

Notable topics found in this work include:

·        On Roman Art of war: arms and weapons, soldier exercises; of the Evocarti

·        On gladiators, entertainment events

·        Extensive discussion on Roman government, Senate

·        Roman mythology and religious practices

·        Roman architecture, buildings, structures, development of design
