OFFERED IS A VERY INTERESTING ART POTTERY FIGURINE THAT WAS MADE IN ISRAEL. THE PIECE IS NOT ARTIST SIGNED EXCEPT FOR A BLACK HEBREW LETTER ON THE SIDE NEAR THE BASE [see photo]. AFTER RESEARCHING IT APPEARS THAT THE ARTIST WAS VERY LIKELY DAVID KALDERON. HE TAUGHT AT THE BEZALEL SCHOOL AND IS CONSIDERED A PIONEER OF THE ISRAELI CERAMICS INDUSTRY. THE BOTTOM OF THE FIGURE WAS INCISED ISRAEL AS HIS OTHER PIECES ARE. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PHOTOS, THE COLORS ARE EARTHY SHADES WITH ABUNDANT SPECKLING & LAVA POPS. THERE ARE SUBTLE PATTERNS ON THE BABY’S BLANKET, ON THE MOTHER’S HEADSCARF AND AT THE HEM OF HER SKIRT. THE GLAZE IS SHINY ON THE BABY’S BLANKET AND ON THE MOTHER’S HEADSCARF. LASTLY, THE FACIAL FEATURES ARE QUITE CRUDE AND THE MOTHER’S HANDS DO NOT SHOW FINGERS. I DO NOT KNOW IN WHICH MID 20th CENTURY DECADE THIS FIGURE WAS MADE. IF YOU ENJOY COLLECTING OBJECTS FROM ISRAEL, THIS ONE WILL SURELY BE A GREAT ADDITION.
