AMONG THE RAREST VINTAGE KITS ... an unheard of BOP kit in Oyster Black Pearl.

Quite possibly the only one in existence?

I've never seen one in nearly 25 years dealing in vintage percussion. Condition places the kit in player's grade. However, its extreme rarity erases this player grading.

Considering that a Ludwig 18x12" BD in ANY finish is quite rare, what do you make of this unheard of gem?

THE KIT ...

The chrome hardware has been cleaned & polished with Simichrome polish. Hardware is in VERY GOOD to VG+ condition. The wrap has been polished with NOVUS 1 & 2 and it is extremely smooth with some lighter scratches, dings that could not be completely buffed out.

12x8" RACK TOM #186518 AUG 5 1965

Original chrome over brass (COB) hoops and chrome hardware have very light pitting / nicks / fine scratches in areas. Original white muffler.

Wrap is in very good+ condition with a few light nicks / scratches remaining after being polished with NOVUS 1 & 2. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT.

14x14 Floor Tom Badge #186514

Original COS hoops and chrome hardware have very light pitting / nicks / fine scratches in areas - again : not bad at all, and far less than what is typically seen in hardware nearly 60 years old. Original white muffler.

Wrap is in very good+ condition with a few light nicks / scratches remaining after being polished with NOVUS 1 & 2. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT.

18x12 BASS DRUM #167581 MAY 19? 1965

Chrome hardware has very light pitting / nicks / fine scratches in areas. The worst lugs have been placed on the bottom of the shell so they're out of view. One hoop is original with the original inlay as shown. Other hoop is non-Ludwig replacement. Prior owner drilled 4 holes each for non-Ludwig spurs (thrown away). The plus here is that the screw holes are small and there was no larger holes drilled for the posts. Ludwig telescoping spurs were reintroduced. Some of the internal plies show some warping but are still sound. 1 spur hole has some of the ply broken away as shown. This is a fantastic bass even with the noted condition issues.

There are holes for the consolette and cymbal mount but I did not put them back as I wouldn't want either on the shell.

Wrap has been polished with NOVUS 1 & 2. The BD clearly had some sort of liquid, not likely to have been water, that sat on a large portion of the wrap. Even with the detailing there was little to do to turn the clock back on the wrap. Needless to say, an 18" bass drum in OBP is beyond scarce. THE WRAP FOLLOWS THE SEAM INTO THE SCARF JOINT.
