ITEM DESCRIPTION

This is an antique, monumental, sophisticated and rarest industrial medical operating lamp i have seen. This completely functional lamp is one of the largest medical lamp ever made and i am pretty sure is the heaviest one with single light ever made (i guess about 120 lbs). This imposing lamp has a sophisticated system: this is the only operating or medical lamp i have seen or found with the lampshade arm placed on a sliding tube with a steel rope that connect it with a hidden weight inside the central column through a rotating pulley on top. In this way the weight of the lampshade arm is counteracted by the weight hidden into the central column, allowing the lamp to move freely up and down and right and left with minimal effort using only a handle inserted in the sliding tube. Thanks to this mechanism the lamp stay in the exactly position you chose when you release the handle. Incredibly easy, practical, speedy and effective. You do not need to waste time adjusting screws, levers or other devices. It has even a rolling base to move the complete body of the lamp. The sliding tube system gives to this lamp an exceptional range of height: 90 cm. to 234 cm. I have seen this mechanism with sliding tube only in UV lamps made by Hanovia (British maker), so i suspect this unsigned lamp is one of the first lamps made by this Hanovia during the end of 1920 s or beginning of 1930 s, when Hanovia made lamps for different purposes and not only ultra violet lamps. However Hanovia UV lamps have shorter and softer lampshade arms, so the central column has a smaller diameter and a more lightweight hidden weight. But this exceptional lamp requires a central column with a very large diameter (almost 8 centimeters) and a very heavy weight to compensate its large and heavy lampshade arm. So this impressive lamps has a very unique and sophisticated feature i have never seen or found in a lamp: the sliding tube has six wheels to minimize friction caused by the excessive weight the lampshade arm. Really amazing and unique feature... The lampshade has also two axis. One for 30 degrees and the other one for 360 degrees, so the light can be directed to all positions. This lamp has a beautiful Bauhaus style, with chromed round handle surrounding the shade and an amazing futuristic look. It has been made entirely of metal (it has no bakelite or plastic parts) and it has a rolling cast iron tripod base. As you can see on pictures, this lamp has been not restored in any way to preserve its original condition, so it shows signals of use consistent with age. Maximum height is 234 centimeters. Minimum height is 90 centimeters. Long of arm (from handle to the end of shade) is 108 centimeters. Diameter of shade including round handle is 54 centimeters. Diameter of lampshade excluding round handle is 46.5 centimeters. Measures of triangular base is (leg to leg) is 78 cm. X 78 cm. X 78 cm. Shipping cost via FedEx certified with tracking code is $ 650 (including three very safe and secure wooden boxes professionally made to protect the lamp perfectly - all packages via FedEx with tracking code - 2 to 6 weeks to arrive).
