ENGLISHBEARDSHAW & SON

"Beardshaw, Jonathan & Son (Merchants and saw, file, edge tool and steel manufacturers). Residing at 16 Garden Street, in 1852. Recorded in: White's Gazetteer & General Directory of Sheffield - 1852."  (From internet)

Has wear as pictured, traditional style except that the teeth are filed in at least 5 distinct styles/lengths/widths as pictures will clearly show.  I bought this many years ago in North Texas at an auction in the small town I live in.  The price kept going up but I eventually got it.  I was there for wood working tools but after the auction a fellow came up to me and asked if I knew what I had, with the saw.  I only knew an odd saw.  He stated it was very rare,  from a medical field unit that served in the US Civil War and he just didn't have the money at the time to win it.  I got it home and hung it up in my shop and have never re-sharpened.  I did sand a bit with a gum-grit eraser to expose the maker mark for pictures.  The starting price is a fraction of what I paid for it.

My overall on this: FINE after sharpening and cleaning.

Also in the 'Collectible Catagory'.  This will require proof of delivery.  I wrap each part individually and also apply an easily removable edge-keeper.  I do not tape directly to any part of the steel or wood.

This is one of several tools, chisels and gouges we have listed at this time. Some of our listings will only be 3 or 5 day auctions so please check frequently if you wish to see all that come thru. Our goal is reducing our stock of over 1,200 vintage/antique chisels and gouges plus all types of other tools and antiques.  Why not try to combine to save money on shipping?

***Please note that this is an old/er tool.  I describe my auctions the way I see the particular tool.  I have tools in my shop which I consider mint and a neighbor may spot a half dozen imperfections or visa-versa.  Each to his own.  Please ask questions well ahead of time if you are a 'super particular' person.  I try to describe what is of import to me and it may miss something which is very important to you.  To the exception, of just a few people, my descriptions have been adequate or better for a few thousand auctions, and the fact that I am about the only seller on ebay who gives 4-7 pictures for each auction on a single tool should make your decision a little easier as to bid or not.  I charge $1 over estimated shipping cost & if I go much over this I tend to refund buyer.  My wife makes me.  I always wrap tips/edges and use bubblewrap or layers of paper to cushion your purchase/s.

***Note to buyers...I have no control over the postal system.  Current shipping seems to be, in many cases, very slow.  Once I ship, I email the buyer the shipping/customs number and from that time forward you have as much information as I have.  The number may be looked up on the USPS website which will indicate that the item was accepted by the system and seldom offers any more info so please be patient and do not 'dog' me that your package has not arrived.  I purchase from overseas myself so I can tell you first-hand that Intl mail is slow/slower than the estimate that the postal system tells you to expect.  Shipping will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays only since I have a good drive to the post office, then have to fill out the forms and stand in a line which is usually an hour or more of my time every time I do this.  If payment is made the night before a Tues. or Thurs. it will be posted on the 2nd available shipping day.  I am always glad to sell to Intl folks but please honor my policies.  Also, if buying chisels and carvers you may wish to combine and use the Priority Flatrate Envelope (if applicable) since for a set cost I can ship up to 4lbs and it will not cost any extra, as long as they fit in the envelope.  Great shipping savings!  I will post to anywhere in Canada, except Quebec since it seems (from my personal experience) that packages seem to 'disappear' when they reach that part of their trip.  Sorry to all the honest folks there but, I cannot afford any more losses.

Please check the pictures and email any questions.  We always have tools.

***We do combine upon request and when reasonable.
