You are bidding on 12 HEFNERS RED JAPANESE MAPLE SEEDS - Acer palmatum 'Hefner's Red'

This is an upright Japanese maple similar to and, according to some, superior to Bloodgood.

It’s a compact grower, comes out in the spring with vibrant five-to-nine-lobed red leaves and turns to a very deep red as summer approaches.

It does a great job of holding that deep red color right into the fall and even holds it’s color when shaded. Late April into early May bring small reddish-purple flowers. The samaras, or winged fruits, mature in fall and turn a rich red.

Height: 12 to 15 feet tall

Spread: 10 to 15 feet 

Hardiness Zone: 5 - 9  This lovely small tree, native to the Far East, can be grown only in very protected areas if you live in Zone 5. 

Medicinal use : None known

Edible parts of Japanese Maple: The sap contains a certain amount of sugar and can either be used as a drink, or can be concentrated into a syrup by boiling off the water. The syrup is used as a sweetener on many foods.  

Other uses of Japanese Maple: The leaves are packed around apples, rootcrops etc to help preserve them.
