Duppi, takya, kalpok … All these are the national names for skullcaps, a light headgear widespread among the Turkic and Persian people. It is a national treasure, a national headdress in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The Uzbek skullcap differs from other types of headgear with its peculiar appearance and patterns. The skullcap consists of three parts: the upper part (it can be round or quadrangular), the middle part (kizak) – in the form of a circle, and finally, the last part consisting of the braid (zhiyak). Patterns embroidered on skullcaps differ depending on the region of the country. Craftsmen who sew skullcaps are called duppiduz, and the profession is called duppiduz. It is an integral part of the traditional values of all people living in Central Asia.
