Bound beautiful half Morocco leather with marbled boards, gilt titles and decoration to the spine, page top edges gilt, others untrimmed with the large folding map in a pocket at the rear.

Edward Arthur Fitz Gerald was an American born British gentleman who personally financed and led the 1896-1897 expedition that was the first to summit Aconcagua and Tupungato. Aconcagua, at 22,837 feet, is the highest mountain in all of the Americas. Tupungato has a maximum elevation of 21,560 feet.

The appendices cover 72 pages and deal with the rock specimens collected in the Andes, notes on fossils collected, the natural history of the Aconcagua Valleys including sections on mammals, birds, reptiles, scorpions and spiders, and plants, and the border dispute between Argentina and Chile.

Approximately 9 ½ inches tall.
