You are bidding on 15 MONARCH OF ILLINOIS BALD CYPRESS SEEDS - Taxodium distichum 'Monarch of Illinois' .

A deciduous conifer with a tightly oval habit. Grows much slower than the species and only attains about 40' high and slightly less in width. The unusually wide-spreading, pyramidal form on this bald cypress eventually develops into a broad-topped, spreading, open specimen when mature.

The pale green, needle-like leaves turn a brilliant coppery red in fall before dropping, but the bare branches and reddish gray, peeling bark provide much landscape interest during the winter.

Cypress knees" develop when planted in wet sites.

Zone: 5 A through 11

Medicinal use : The resin in the cones is used as an analgesic for wounds.

Other uses : The bark has been used to make cordage. Wood - light, soft, not strong, moderately hard, easily worked, straight grained, very durable in damp soil, takes a good polish. It weighs 28 lb per cubic foot. The wood is not given to excessive warping or shrinking, it is used for construction, water pipes, vats etc.
