I saw this mirror as I was checking out of the antique mall, and it took my breath away. After a couple hours of ambling and shopping, I thought I was finished gawking and coveting things ... until I saw this. It was one of those really impressive pieces that shop owners hang behind the check-out counter, harder to access but clearly screaming, “LOOK AT ME, I AM SPECIAL!”
Hand-etched glass, beveled edges, and overlapping hand-cut layers, this elegant Venetian circular wall mirror in the opulent Hollywood Regency style dates from1930s-40s. The elaborately detailed circular border frame is decorated with frosted and convex floral designs. The decoration to the frame and crest is handmade with detailed etched floral ornamentation and beveled glass edges. This is a stunning jewel-like statement piece and would be a great addition to a MOVIE PROP collection or Art-Deco themed room or boudoir dressing room. It is approximately 28” X 20”. It is unmarked.
I have yet to see another mirror quite like this. Online searches will find only one or two available at any given time. Mostly in England, at high-end Auction Houses. The words RARE and HARD-TO-FIND are often used when folks list items like this for resale. However, this really is one of those times when those words are 100% accurate.
CONDITION: Considering this piece is almost 95 years old, it is in remarkably good condition with wear consistent with age and use. Handmade with wood and metal backing. It has general marks and wear, small flea bites to the glass, and some slight losses to silvering.
Overall Dimensions: 28” Tall X 20” Wide. The three concentric circles that comprise the center of the mirror are (starting from the center) 13.5” X ¾” X 2”
