Rhodesian Army Selous Pattern T-Shirt Repro - RARE.

Reproduction of an aftermarket t-shirt, as worn by members of the Selous Scouts including the legendary Lieutenant Colonel Ron Reid-Daly CLN DNN MBE.

Now don't get your knickers in a knot that this "Selous" pattern shirt "iSnT rEaL rHoDeSiAn" and looks too green. Allow us to explain!

During the Rhodesian Bush War, the Rhodesian Army issued out relatively lightweight cotton uniforms in the distinctive Rhodesian Brushstroke pattern. Despite the uniforms being the product of years of experience in jungle fighting in Malaya, the uniforms often still proved to be uncomfortable to wear during the dry seasons between June to October in Rhodesia. With relatively lax dress standards in the field, Rhodesian soldiers took to wearing various t-shirts and short-shorts when on operational duties. The t-shirts included standard issue "mustard green" colours, and a dizzying array of private purchase "camo" t-shirts. Indigenously produced by cottage industries and sporting good stores in Rhodesia, the shirts often crudely attempted to replicate the army issue "Rhodesian Brushstroke, 2nd Pattern" with varying success. No t-shirts ended up being actually issued by the Rhodesian Army in the true colours of Rhodesian Brushstroke, but certain surviving examples show that industrious Rhodesians were able to get it pretty close.

After extensive research and colour tests, we were able to faithfully replicate a beautiful example of a t-shirt, attributed to none other than Lieutenant Colonel Ron Reid-Daly. Reid-Daly had formerly served in the Rhodesian Special Air Service "C" Squadron, during the Malayan Emergency. He continued his military career in the Rhodesian Light Infantry, rising to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major by his retirement in 1973. Coaxed our of his brief retirement by General Peter Walls, he was commissioned into the Rhodesian Army and formed a new special forces unit based off his Malaya counter insurgency experiences - the legendary Selous Scouts. He would lead the unit throughout the Rhodesian Bush War. The unconventional tactics, combined with expert bush craft and soldiering skills made the Selous Scouts a cut above all other units of the Rhodesian Security Forces. The regiment's brutal selection course, and asymmetrical operations during the course of the Rhodesian Bush War remain a envy of special forces units around the world until the present day. The multi-racial unit would have a presence in almost all major operations of the latter half of the Rhodesian Bush War.

The t-shirt is replicated on a 1-to-1 scale with the original example, and produced in an exceptionally comfortable 50/50 polyester cotton blend. The shirt is perfect for serious re-enactors looking to authentically portray Rhodesian soldiers of the Bush War era, collectors, and military history enthusiasts.
