The OBD-AUS V4 Bluetooth is our OBD2 Bluetooth scan tool that has been created to offer you the best experience and ease of use to get the data you want from your car and check and clear your engine check light. With a high quality micro-chip manufactured in the USA (not a cheap clone), Multi protocols and small size it is the perfect OBD2 scan tool to view all the engine data that your car can supply.

You can check what fault codes are causing that check engine light and what they mean when they happen on your car with this OBD2 Scan Tool.

You can also use this tool to make custom dashboards with live data that will display on your phone or tablet while you are driving. So you can view things like coolant temperature, air intake temperature, boost and a number of others. Or make up a custom trip computer with all the gauges you need.

Please note this tool is able to check engine/general faults only and if you want to access other modules on your vehicle like ABS or Air Bags etc you will need a full system scan tool.

You can find out why the annoying check engine light keeps coming on and fix this problem and clear this check engine light. Saving you from having to go to to the mechanic and paying $100 for them just to tell you that there was dust around your fuel flap door and this was causing your car to think that it was open (all too common problem).

The OBD-AUS Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool (Car Scanner) works by being plugged into your OBD2 port and reading data from a number of sensors on your car. You will find this port within 50cm of your steering wheel (Check below steering wheel and above pedals, can be behind plastic cover) and it is easy to access. This data is then displayed on your phone or tablet using a free OBD scan tool app that you download from the Play or App store. You can also scan the QR code on the back of the packaging and it will take you to our website install page that shows you what and how to install the app. There are a large number of these ranging from free to $10.

FAQs:

Will it work with my car?

If your car is 2007 or newer petrol, 2008 and newer diesel then YES! it is full OBD2 and it will work with your car. If your car is older then please contact us to confirm.

Some early and even late 2006 models were not OBD2 compliant yet even if mandated by law. Please check with us first to ensure compatibility.

How do I install it and get it to work?

All cars have a diagnostics port (OBD) and if your car is OBD2 it has to be within reaching distance of the steering wheel. Look under the steering wheel and above your pedals and you will find it. Then all you have to do is plug it in and download the app on your phone.

Can I leave it plugged in?
Yes you can leave this OBD2 Bluetooth device plugged in as it has small power usage when in sleep mode. However if you are parking your car up for a month or more we suggest you take it out.

Will it clear my engine fault and tell me whats wrong?

Yes it will do both of these it is a OBD2 bluetooth scan tool. In the app you just click on check engine faults. It will then come up with code like this P0171 – Oxygen Sensor. So you know the problem is with the oxygen sensor and then the best thing to do is google the code and your cars year and model. e.g. Toyota Hilux 2017 P0171. Nine times out of ten this will be a common problem and the answer will be the first thing that pops up.

Do I need internet connection for this ?

The only time you need internet connection is when you are downloading the app after that you do not need it. So when you are out in the outback with no coverage yes it will still work and allow you to check/clear faults and access your engines data. As it connects to your phone via bluetooth being a OBD2 bluetooth scan tool and you already have downloaded the app.

Can I use on multiple cars and with different apps ?

Of course you can just unplug it and plug it into any car you like. Takes all of 2 seconds. Yes you can use multiple apps and on multiple devices. Just download the apps that best suit your needs. You can see a list of a few below and what they do. Please contact us first to confirm if this scanner is fully compatible with your preferred app that is not on our list.

Does this show the transmission temperature ?

Yes it can read transmission temperatures but it’s not enabled by default. You will need to program the app it works with to read that parameter. The programming is called ‘PID codes’ and you can usually find these through an online search (the codes also vary depending on vehicle make and model).  Due to the numerous variable PIDs available for transmission temperature, OBD2 Australia does not provide these PIDs.

Please note that not all live data parameters and gauges may be available by default in the app. You may need PID codes to enable these non-default parameters. Due to PIDs being very variable, OBD2 Australia does not provide these PIDs. Some readings may be incorrect as well (such as fuel consumption, oil temperature, boost etc). This is because most apps use a generic PID to interpret these data.

Note that to do additional parameters or add more PIDs you will need the paid version of any app you are using.

*This OBD2 scanner may be incompatible with some latest updates on phones as these can cause Bluetooth firmware issues. This is usually fixed by another future software update.

Use Cases

  1. Great tool that saved me $$$ and a trip to the shop. Was unsure what the check engine light meant. Plugged in the OBD-AUS scan tool and it told me low voltage on the MAF sensor. So replaced this part and cleared check light and all is good.
  2. Handy to have as was out in the middle of no where and the check engine light came on and put vehicle into limp mode. Check what the fault code was and helped me sort out the issue and then clear the fault code to get out of limp mode and carry on my trip.
  3. Always have this on with extra gauges showing so I can keep an eye on things like oil temp and trans temp when towing on long journeys and in hot places as want to pick up any issues before they happen.

Other Apps:

Our scan tool has been left open so you can connect it to a number of recommended apps. This allows our users to connect to the app they need. We have give the apps we have suggest above but these are also other apps you can use:

Car Scanner ELM OBD – iOS & Android – Free & Paid – Great app for all car makes and models to create dashboards and read/clear faults.

Torque (lite)– Android – Free & Paid – Great app for all car makes and models to create dashboards and read/clear faults.

Paid app shown on photos. Free version has less features and ads. Paid version has no ads and has more features. It is best to download the free version first, explore and try it out before going for the paid version or even before acquiring the scanner.

NOTICE: IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE APP FIRST PRIOR TO PURCHASE TO SEE IF IT WORKS OR IS COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR DEVICE.  RETURNS DUE TO THE APP NOT WORKING OR INCOMPATIBILITY WITH YOUR DEVICE WILL BE SUBJECT TO OUR FULL RETURNS POLICY. OBD2 AUSTRALIA DOES NOT DEVELOP ANY OF THE APPS LISTED HERE, THEREFORE ANY ISSUES WITH IT ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL.

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASE: PRODUCT LIMITATIONS

This scanner is not compatible with Bluetooth devices that are not running V4.0 and above.

This scanner is best for use with mobile phones and tablets running Android or iOS. It can be hit or miss on some headunits due to Bluetooth firmware issues.

Note that this scanner may not pair or connect on newer Samsung devices (2020+) running on BT 5.0 due to some software and firmware issues on these mobile devices. In cases where it refuses to connect still despite following the guide provided, it is not an indication that the OBD2 device is faulty and returns will be subject to our refund policy. The guide provided above is third-party and OBD2 Australia is not liable for any issues or damage it can cause to your device.

This device may need to be replugged on and off a vehicle’s OBD2 port to wake it up if it goes into low power mode and if it does not connect automatically. This is standard for our OBD2 ELM327 Bluetooth device, and is not an indicator of a faulty scanner. Alternatively, you may need to unpair the device from Bluetooth settings, restart your phone/device, pair again then connect in app to get it working, if you choose not to plug and unplug.

If this device fails to work on your mobile device but works on another, it means the problem lies with the mobile device that it failed to work with, and not with the scanner. Note that mobile device settings and firmware may cause this to not work and that they are  very variable. Multiple factors can cause this and this does not indicate a fault with the scanner.

There are issues using this BT 4.0 ELM327 device on newer iOS devices (running iOs 12-13+) due to some iOS privacy restrictions/settings, on Car Scanner ELM OBD2 or on some OBD2 scan apps. This is a software related issue and NOT hardware or an issue with the scanner, nor is it automatically faulty. Using an older iOS device or Android will make it work.

Note that app or mobile device firmware related issues are not covered by the product warranty or your consumer rights on this item as they are third party and not sold nor are a product of OBD2 Australia.

Any app related concerns (such as wrong/erroneous readings, compatibility issues and other issues that are not caused by the hardware) should be directed to the developers of the app you are using. OBD2 Australia support will only cover basic connectivity between the scanner and your device. Software or firmware related issues are beyond our scope.
