Taking care of a sourdough starter involves regular feeding, some tips and tricks, and attention to ensure its health and vitality. Here's a simple guide to help you maintain your sourdough. Beginners friendly step by step instructions and tips are sent with the purchase.

These General Steps will show you that it is easy to get your starter going:

1. Initial Feeding:

- If you receive a new starter, begin by transferring it to a clean glass container.

- Mix equal parts (by weight) of flour and water. Stir until well combined.

- Cover loosely with allowing some air to circulate. Let it sit for 6-24 hours.

2. Daily Feeding:

- Once your starter is active, discard half of it to leave room for fresh flour and water.

- Add equal parts (by weight) of flour and water to the remaining starter.

3. Signs of a Healthy Starter:

- Bubbles: Look for bubbles forming on the surface after feeding. This indicates fermentation is taking place.

- Rise: A healthy starter should double in size within a few hours of feeding.

- Aroma: It should have a pleasant, slightly tangy smell, yeast or dough like. Avoid using it if it develops a bad odor.

Remember, sourdough starters are resilient. They are not dead, just sleeping. With regular feeding, a little patience, and attention to its behavior, you'll have a thriving starter ready for delicious bread baking!
