About The Artist and Her Passion
In 1979, Sheila and Jim Thompson started their collectibles business in a tiny home workshop in Charleston, South Carolina. Using her singular vision, skill, talent, a five-dollar ($5.00) investment, and a borrowed saw, Shelia created these timeless, historically accurate works of art. Shelia's loyal customers remember first purchasing these hand-crafted works of art from a booth inside the "infamous" open-air market on market street in downtown Charleston, SC. Shelia amassed a large client base looking for her wooden pieces of art and eventually moved into a modest-sized warehouse. Her daughter would join the company and produce some of the most architecturally precise three-dimensional buildings and houses from various locations worldwide. As Shelia's company continued to flourish in Charleston, SC, she added many product variations such as famous landmarks, figurines, purses, door stops, fireplace screens, wind chimes, magnets, holiday decor, and many items of significance from around the world. Shelia's miniature houses were made in the USA and helped preserve the details of the landmark properties she replicated. Unfortunately, Shelia's Custom Wood Gifts closed after more than thirty years of success; however, Shelia Thompson is still creating beautiful art pieces sold online today.
