What is the difference between bias and straight binding?
Straight grain binding is binding that is cut in strips along the grain of a piece of fabric parallel to the selvedge.
Cross grain binding is also cut in strips along the grain but it is cut from selvedge to selvedge.
Bias binding is binding that is cut at a 45 degree angle from the selvedge.
In other words:
– When using binding tape for a straight seam – straight cut is FINE for Stability and Strength
- When using binding for a curve seam – bias cut is a MUST

For a nicer finish, if you're using a folder, use it instead of an elastic by putting either a clear elastic tape, a rubber tape or a knitted elastic inside the tape.
