Ichimatsu dolls are made in the likeness of Kabuki actors.
Therefore, when a Ichimatsu doll is given as a gift, the wish is that the child will grow up to be a beautiful girl. Also, since it is difficult to provide all sisters with dolls, some cultures give Ichimatsu dolls to the second daughter and onward.

The origin of Ichimatsu dolls is said to date back to the Edo period (1603-1868).

In Edo, there was a Kabuki actor named Sanogawa Ichimatsu, whose beauty made him very popular, and even dolls modeled after him were put on the market.
These dolls were named "Ichimatsu dolls" and became popular among the general public.
However, the culture of dolls existed even before that. Dolls called "hugging dolls" existed in the Muromachi period (1333-1573) and were made for the children of court nobles at that time. In the past, young girls used to carry dolls close to their bodies, just as little girls now carry stuffed toys.
