Alexander Weygers wrote this excellent book which bridges conventional black smith practice with modern tools, methods, materials and techniques.  Traditional black smith procedures lacked the new heating, welding and forming tools and methods so production was limited to the times required and specific difficult techniques such as forge forming and forge welding.  In the modern world coal and coke has been partially replaced with gas heating appliances and electric welding.  Metal is now more commonly available in various grades and sizes so that less time is spent creating that just right combination of size and hardness, the starting point to a project requires less time and effort, production is faster and the end result more predictable.  This listing is for a PDF copy of this great little book.  Mr. Wengers techniques are time proven and while the results still require black smith talent, it is just "up to date" with modern day requirements!  Today a black smith can spend more time on artistic creation and less time creating the metal and tools to work with.  This does not degrade the craft, it makes it better!
