A Qajar style Middle Eastern magic bowl dating to the early 19th century. It is decorated with calligraphic Islamic script .and has further decorative roundels. Such bowls were used for healing with the patient drinking water from the bowl. The magical Koranic scripts would imbue the water with medicinal and healing properties.
This example is well engraved with plenty of detail and a lovely mellow gold tone to the brass. It appears to have been kept reasonably clean an polished but still has a lovely warm patina and sense of age. It is hand beaten and the planishing marks are still visible to the exterior.
Condition
Minor wear and some oxidisation spots as you would expect for the period. No significant knocks or polishing wear, a nice example.
