Ah, I wish GBD was still making pipes like this piece represents.  Since the mid1800s,  GBD made wonderful looking and incredibly great smoking meerschaums and french and english briar pipes.   But we GBD fans know that..lol..  I have said this before MANY times here on Ebay but I hope the pictures do this wonderful pipe justice.  This pipe is rare fine in that its over FIFTY YEARS OLD made prior to the downfall era when GBD merged with Comoy around 1981....and in Excellent condition !!   And check out the perfect shaped bent rhodesian, THE iconic shape that GBD made famous.  This piece has incredible tight symmetrical cross-cut grain on both sides of the bowl and shank which produces wonderful staight grain to the heel and bottom of the shank!!.   And check out the 'old production' rounded end on the tenon!!  I have seen numerous examples of this 9438 shape in my day.....But this grain is the BEST I've ever seen,.  Of course it is stamped with their highest  grade: VIRGIN.......There are no scratches, shop wear,  rim char or real bite marks on the stem.  The pipe is in EXCELLENT condition.   Gently and rarely smoked with virginia flakes. It looks almost brand new!    It is simply stamped GBD in an oval over 'Virgin' on the left shank  and LONDON ENGLAND 9438 on the right shank.....Its overall length is 5 1/4 in.,  bowl height 1 9/16 in. tall,  bowl diameter  is 7/8 in. wide with a conical tobacco chamber depth about 1 5/16 inches with a weight of 1.9 ounces.   making it about a Dunhill group 5 in size.   A  GBD pouch is included.... I am a fool to get rid of this fine, fine Rare piece of GBD  history.  ...   Bid with confidence.......and Happy New year dear friends   Paige
