Opal is a mineraloid since it has an amorphous structure, it is a hydrated tectosilicate from the silica group. Sometimes it presents iridescence, reflections of colors with different shapes and effects, and can seem like a stone taken from another world. In these cases, it is undoubtedly a stone with a color and beauty that astonishes anyone.
Natural Australian opal with iridescence will shine brighter when wet, and will maintain its shine over the years, being able to get wet without problem.
To appreciate the iridescence of rough opals it is advisable to wet them. The best light to see the iridescence of opals is white LED light, such as a smartphone flash or a flashlight with white light.
If your climate is especially dry, it is advisable to put the opals in an airtight bag with moist cotton to preserve them for long periods of time, since their composition is largely water, and if they dry excessively they can deteriorate. It is not advisable to overexpose opals to direct sun without being moistened, as they could deteriorate due to lack of humidity.

El ópalo es un mineraloide ya que presenta una estructura amorfa, es un tectosilicato hidratado del grupo de las sílices. En algunas ocasiones presenta iridiscencia, reflejos de colores con diferentes formas y efectos, pudiendo llegar a parecer una piedra sacada de otro mundo. En estos casos sin duda es una piedra con un colorido y una belleza que asombran a cualquiera.
El ópalo australiano natural con iridiscencia brillará más al mojarse, y mantendrá su brillo a lo largo de los años, pudiendo mojarse sin problema.
Para apreciar la iridiscencia de los ópalos en bruto es conveniente mojarlos. La mejor luz para ver la iridiscencia de los ópalos es la luz led blanca, como el flash de un smartphone o una linterna con luz blanca.
Si tu clima es especialmente seco es conveniente meter los ópalos en una bolsita hermética con un algodón humedecido para conservarlos por largos periodos de tiempo, ya que su composición es en gran parte agua, y si se secan en exceso pueden deteriorarse. No es conveniente sobreexponer los ópalos al sol directo sin ser humedecidos, ya que podrían deteriorarse por falta de humedad.
