15+ Tupelo/Black gum, Nyssa sylvatica seeds, harvested autumn, 2023. Most well-known for its absolutely brilliant fall foliage, the tupelo turns a magnificent burgundy in good years and a gorgeous yellow-orange in worse ones, either way, very striking. It is not the tupelo of Van Morrison's famed “Tupelo Honey,” but the small flowers can still make a very tasty honey. It is however, the namesake of Elvis’ hometown of Tupelo, Mississippi.

The trees, once established, can withstand prolonged flooding and are considered quintessential swamp trees, though not to the extent as other species in the genus. Cold hardy from USDA Zones 4-9, grows to about 20m/60 feet, and is one of the greatest trees for wildlife once fruiting age. It is the oldest-lived tree in North America with proper flowers, at over 600 years of age. The seeds are cleaned, and need cold treatment until spring. They are naturally very sporadic and unpredictable in terms of germination rates, so please be aware. Will not ship to Germany due to strict packaging regulations. Cheers.
