14” Large French Sterling Silver Serving
Ladle Hallmarked Paris Date marked 1789
Presented is a
beautiful large French Sterling silver plate ladle with full hallmarks for
silver made in 1789 with a makers mark I believe to be J L with first standard
silver grade for 950 fine silver. I have posted a picture of my research on the town mark in the photos above. American standard sterling silver is 925 fine
so there is slightly more silver in this alloy. This beautiful ladle a large
elliptical deep bowl with an upturned end, a faint front midrib and a V slashed
molded drop. It has only some shallow dents in ladle bowl, some dings on edges,
no monogram, some minor scratches from gentle use and care. This is a lovely antique
piece and useful item and a great addition to almost any service or setting.
