We purchased this from the estate of an avid antique collector. She marked it as circa 1794. It is a beautiful hand made wood plate with sides that make it a somewhat flat bowl shaped design. The bottom is not perfectly flat. There are multiple areas with marks that indicate it was certainly hand carved. It has a beautiful patina. We don’t believe it has been stained or sealed but possibly waxed or oiled. We can’t be positive on the finish but that is our best guess.

The maker decorated it with a wonderfully intricate chip carving decoration. It is a thick plate and very sturdy.

It is always difficult to date pieces like this. Please review the photos to make your own assessment and feel free to reach out with any questions. The blue tape on the bottom was on it when we purchased it from the estate.
