Description:

London: Printed for Taylor and Hessey, 1825, First Edition.

Scarce title in early Victorian diced calf, 8 ½ inches tall.  A near contemporary binding with gilt raised bands, blind and gilt pallets and gilt centre tools.  A curious and scarce work.  Elizabeth Kent was a respected English Botanist who wrote Flora Domestica with her brother in law Leigh Hunt, the famous critic and writer.

xliv, 408pp plus 4 pages of ‘Books Just Published’ at the rear.

Approximately 8 ½ inches tall.

Condition Report

Externally

• Spine – good condition – 4 raised gilt bands with blind tooling along each band separating 5 compartments, 4 of which have gilt centre tools.
• Joints – good condition – gently rubbed and worn.
• Corners – good condition – gently bumped and worn.
• Boards – good condition – full diced calf with gilt borders to both boards, general signs of wear, the outer edges of the boards are also gilt, however, this has worn off in places.
• Page edges – good condition – top edge slightly darkened, all marbled.

Internally

• Hinges – good condition – both hinges are cracked but are holding.
• Paste downs – good condition – marbled, the front paste down has been damaged where a book plate has been removed.
• End papers – good condition – marbled.
• Title – good condition – lightly tanned with some foxing.
• Pages – good condition – lightly tanned throughout, pages 217-224 have been cut slightly narrower than the others and are therefore set back from the rest of the pages, there are some marks along some of the top edges e.g. page 217.
• Binding – good condition – sound, a curious and scarce work.
