Pommer is one of the names brought to England in the wave of migration following the Norman conquest of 1066. The Pommer family lived in Devon but their name was in reference to La Pommeroie, the family's place of residence prior to the Norman conquest of 1066. The first Pommer to immigrate to the U.S. was Johannes Pommer who landed in New york in 1782. More followed in the 19th century.
