The "Kominka" means a traditional Japanese house.

The Kominka can be found in urban centers of Japan if one looks for them, but originally they were scattered in the suburbs and mountainous areas of Japan where many of those engaged in agriculture lived.

Since the 1980s, the number of kominka has been on the decline, but in recent years, it has become fashionable to renovate kominka and turn them into bars, cafes, and restaurants.

If you search for "古民家 (meaning "Kominka")" on social networking sites, you can see Kominka that have been renovated and turned into restaurants and cafes.

The district of Shirakawa-go in Gifu Prefecture is home to many Kominka with thatched roofs called Gassho-zukuri, as shown in #001-5, and is registered as a World Heritage site.

These are also available for overnight stays, so be sure to visit.
