Description:

Oxford: T. Wright and W. Gill, 1774, Oxford Wright and Gill 12mo Edition.

12mo edition, 5 ½ inches tall in contemporary leather binding, unrestored. Gilt decoration to the spine and boards, no titles to the spine. Worn to extremities with some loss to the leather.

Collated as follows: A to Ff in gatherings of 12, Gg in gathering of 6, Hh to Qq in gatherings of 12. The 12 pages in the T gathering are paginated as follows T to T4 followed by *S to *S4 followed by 4 unmarked [at the base of the page] pages.

This seems to be a printing error, corrected by the '*S'. Job end at S12 [Chapter XXX verse 2] incorrectly. Psalms starts at T1 and goes to T4 [Psalm XXVI verse 5]; Job Chapter XXX verse 2 continues at the top of *S and continues to the end of Job at *S4; Psalms picks up again at the unmarked T8 [Chapter XXVI verse 6] and pagination recommences correctly.

*Pages were often used to correct print setting or publishing errors. The Bible is complete.

Unnumbered pages. Scarce volume, 11 in UK Libraries and 4 in North Ameriacn Libraries.

• Spine – fair to good condition – 4 raised bands separating 5 compartments all with gilt decoration, general signs of wear, worn top and tail with some loss to the bottom of the spine.
• Joints – good condition – worn and creased.
• Corners – good condition – bumped and worn.
• Boards – good condition – maroon leather with gilt decorated border to the front and rear, colour has faded on the rear board.
• Page edges – good condition – all edges gilt although faded.

Internally

• Hinges – good condition – sound.
• Paste downs – good condition – marbled with foxing around the edges.
• End papers – good condition – marbled with loss to the pattern around the edges.
• Title – good condition – tanned and foxed.
• Pages – good condition – there is a hand written message on the reverse of the front end paper, text in two columns, tanned with some foxing throughout.
• Binding – good condition – attractive, original and worn.
