Saint Teresa of Avila was a 16th-century Spanish mystic and
Carmelite nun who played an essential role in the Counter Reformation by
reforming the Carmelite order. Her written works are integral in the
development of Christian mysticism and personal meditation practices in the 16th-century.
Beginning in 1562, Teresa began writing her own autobiography, which has been
consistently published through into the 21st-century.
This impressive 1602 first edition was published in Venice by Giorgio
Greco.
