ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Federico Jiménez Caballero, was born in Tututepec, Oaxaca in Mexico into a low-income family that worked in the fields, he is the eldest of eight siblings. At the age of 14 he had to leave his hometown for being involved in burning down the Church, so he settled in the state capital.
During those years he had to learn to survive, and being of legal age he found the opportunity to enter the University to study Accounting. During those years he met his wife Ellen Belber with whom he immigrated to the US and settled in the city of Los Angeles.
It was the 1970s and being a migrant he had difficulties establishing himself at work, so he studied goldsmithing, which allowed him to design his first jewelry that he sold in bazaars. His first celebrity client was the singer Cher, who was struck by the designs.
The Mixtec culture that saw him grow up is embodied in the jewelry he designs in his studio in Venice, California.
His indigenous designs have caught the attention of big Hollywood stars such as Elizabeth Taylor, Catherine Deneuve, Cher, Natalie Wood, Robert Wagner, Katty Perry, Beyoncé, among many more who have worn his pieces on red carpets.
Federico assures that he wants to be recognized as an example of improvement, since he overcame poverty, the discrimination that he experienced as a migrant in the US, rejection, until he achieved success and recognition for his great work. .
Federico Jiménez is a proud Hispanic, whose Mixtec origin never denied him, much less to renounce his indigenous roots, and become a successful businessman worldwide, since his work is admired and also acquired in Europe.
