I have here for sale a book entitled CHINESE TEXTILE DESIGNS by Gao Hanyu, translated from the Chinese by Rosemary Scott and Susan Whitfield. It is a first edition published by Viking in 1992.  After recent archaeological finds in the early 90s, fabrics came to light which gave rise to a reassessment of the history of Chinese textile technology and design.  This book written by a Chinese scholar in fabric technology, discusses all the significant archaeological material and uses it to explain the dvelopment of spinning, weaving, printing, dyeing and embroidery in China.  It is vividly illustrated with 275 full colour plates.  A gorgeous book.

Black cloth hardboards with gilt title lettering to the spine.  Boards in mint condition.  Covered by a black dustjacket with a colour illustrated strip of fabric offset to the front and rear covers, with gilt title lettering to the front and spine.  Jacket in mint condition also.  Beautiful maroon endpapers with gilt illustration of a Chinese woman on a weaving machine.  Pages clean throughout.  Housed in a buff coloured cardboard slipcase.  272 pages, 32 x 24 cm.
