Ithmid" (antimony) is the best type of kohl (eyeliner), which is used by both men and women. It is found in Arabia, Morocco, Isbahan (present-day Iran), and other countries. "Ithmid" is a brittle mineral that can be easily crushed to powder. It is silvery white in its pure form. It emits a distinct smell when rubbed between the fingers. "Ithmid" is used to improve the eyesight and keep one's eyes in a healthy condition and as a cosmetic to adorn and beautify, and has other uses as well.

نَوْعٌ مِن أَنْواعِ الكُحْلِ وهو أَجْوَدُها، يَسْتَخْدِمُهُ الرِّجالُ والنِّساءُ، ويُوجَدُ في الحِجازِ والمَغْرِبِ وأَصْبَهانَ -إِيران اليوم- وغَيْرها مِن الدُّوَلِ، وهو مَعْدِنٌ هَشٌّ سَرِيعُ التَّفَتُّتِ، لامِعٌ ذُو لَوْنٍ أَبْيَضَ فِضِيٍّ عندما يكون نَقِيًّا، وعندما يُفْرَكُ بين الأصابِعِ يَنْشُرُ رائِحَةً واضِحَةً، ويُستَعملُ لِتحسِينِ النَّظَرِ وتقوِيَتِه، كما يُستعملُ للتَّزيُّنِ والتَّجمُّلِ وغيرِ ذلك.
