This antique set of coffee spoons was produced by expert German Silversmiths Koch & Bergfeld.

Each spoon features a gilt vermeil bowl with a twist stem and topped with a detailed mascaron (mask) of a womans face. The spoons are stamped on the back of the bowls with the company's Pedestal Vase hallmark and 800 indicating the purity of silver. As there is no additional German national hallmark that was introduced from1888 it is presumed that the spoons were manufactured slightly earlier.

The six spoons were likely originally a set of twelve...

The set is 'married' with a pair of Silver Sugar Tongs crafted by English firm James Dixon & Sons.   The tongs are decorated with a Repousse pattern.

The presentation box is not original...

As the years pass, these lovely antique items become more precious... pieces are damaged, lost or collections are broken up.  The good news for collectors is that quality pieces should not only hold their value but increase over time.

Condition:
All items in very good antique used condition commensurate for age. No dents or bends noted. Some marks/spots to the spoon bowls as expected for age.  The tongs are in top condition... Presentation box has seen better days but still closes firmly and the interior is still very good.  Lovely set and ready to use...

Additional Info:

German company Koch & Bergfeld was founded 1829 in Bremen Germany. The family run business was very successful and supplied royal houses, large companies and governments, also opening up an export market in the early 1900's...
Over time the company has made numerous changes to its logo. The most recognised hallmarks are the Pedestal Vase and Bremen Key.
In 1884 a national law was enacted making 800 the minimum national standard for silver in Germany which was compulsory by 1888 and the symbols of a "Half-Moon" for silver and a "Crown" for Germany were added.
In 1989 also Koch family retired from the business and the company was sold to Villeroy & Boch.
