Description:
Half leather binding with silk cloth boards. Hand written diary, it states inside “This Book Used To Belong To Miss Paul”.
171 pages of hand written notes, poems, religious notes, rhymes, ballads etc. There are also a number of loose pages. Some pages have small paintings/drawings, the poem called “The Snowdrop” has two small snowdrops painted in the top corners, there is also a beautifully painted butterfly on one of the pages.
Inside the front cover there are two pieces of paper showing the footprint of Church of S. Petrock, Exeter.
Titles of pieces include:
‘Resignation’, ‘To the First Rose’, ‘Stanzas’, ‘Crazy Ellen’s Memory’, ‘Pleading for Mercy’, ‘Come Home’, ‘To Morrow’, ‘The Passing Bell’, ‘The Sea Shell’, Leoyard’s Praise of Woman’, ‘The Mother and her dying Boy’, ‘Hymn’, ‘A Ballad’, ‘The Jewish Oath’, ‘Cradle Song of the Elves’, ‘A Fool’s Wit’, ‘A Mother’s Grave’, ‘A Cottager’s Song’, etc etc.
