I have here for sale a rare and important book entitled DICTIONNAIRE PHILOSOPHIQUE OU LA RAISON PAR ALPHABET, or VOLTAIRE. Septieme edition revue, corrigee et augmentee par l'auteur.  It was published in London in 1770, as publication in France was illegal, but no publisher given. Voltaire is the author.  The book is divided into two parts - the first one covers A-I and the second covers L-V.  They cover such things as Amour, Beaute, Circonsision, Divinite de Jesus, Idolatre, Superstition, Loix, Liberte, Orgueil,  Prejuges, etc.

Full leather hardboards with 5 gilt raised bands to the spine.  A chip to the leather on the front board and a couple on the rear board.  Spine leather is missing at the bottom and the leather is cracked.  Boards firm.  Lovely colour endpapers (see photos) which are contemporary wallpaper designed and published by Benoist Huquier of Orleans.  Pencil marks to the half title page and title page.  Pages clean.  Binding pulling slightly and there is some eighteenth century bookworming at the rear 10 pages or so.
