I have here for sale a book entitled MEMOIRS OF THE LIFE AND WRITINGS OF JOHN CALVIN; Compiled from the Narrative of Theodore Beza, and other Authentic Documents.  Accompanied with Biographical Sketches of the Reformation by JOHN MACKENZIE printed for Williams and Smith; London, Preface dated 1809.  First edition.  John Calvin (1509-1564) was a French theologian, pastor and reformer in Geneva during the Protestant Reformation.  He was a leading figure in the development of the system of Christian theology which became known as Calvinism.  The biographical sketches include those for John Wickliffe, Erasmus, Luther, Thomas Cranmer, and John Knox.  There is a full-page b/w portrait of John Calvin on the frontispiece.

Half bound brown leather on marbled hardboards with minor wear to the leather.  Five raised bands with a dark brown title block, gilt lettering and gilt bands on the spine.  Minor wear to the leather.  Marbled endpapers and page edges.  Browning to title page and foxing to frontispiece.  All pages are tight and the book is in very good condition.  xvi, 396 pages.  21.5 x 14 cm.
