Roger de Piles was a 17th-century French painter who is best
known for his book ‘Lives of the
Painters’. His portfolio of anatomical treatises includes a collection of
detailed human anatomy engravings depicting each system of the human body. The
illustrations of engravings are especially desirable, all of which are found in
this 1760 folio of Piles ‘Anatomy’.
This folio includes a 1785 printing of Gerard Audran’s “Les proportions du corps humain” – an
instructional treatise on illustrations and engravings of human body
proportions.
